and you have to work until 6:00 for that half hour to count as overtime.

Clearly illegal.

You could say there is absolutely no workplace atmosphere.

It is dead and lifeless, with no vitality whatsoever.

Whatever the supervisors and boss say is treated as a decree and cannot be disobeyed or challenged.

If they take a dislike to you, they start making trouble for you.

They are very fond of secretly reporting on and complaining about people.

If you ask, they impatiently say, “You don’t even know this?”

If you don’t ask and make a mistake, just wait to be scolded.

New employees almost never last more than a month.
