Cons

The moment the elevator doors open, there’s a smell like walking into an expired insurance company. To outsiders, they call themselves an “AI data integration startup”; internally, every outsourced engineer knows this place merely repackages Cobol, JAVA, and .NET and sells them to managers who don’t understand technology.

I came in as an outsourced data engineer. On my first day, HR Lynn didn’t show up; she only sent a message saying she was “busy investigating documents.” Later I learned that whenever she runs into trouble, she automatically disappears.

There are four people in the department whom everyone privately calls the “Dinosaur Team 🦖,” because they live in the previous century yet refuse to go extinct.

Xu✠Long always holds a microphone 🎤 to host meetings, talking about how “socializing is important,” but in practice he only knows how to pass responsibility downward.

jack always has OREO and osmanthus tea on his desk. His specialty is changing other people’s code comments and then calling it an improvement.

Li✠Yu loves procedures most of all. There are so many of them that they’re like brown-sugar boba milk tea—full sugar, full toppings, and when you can’t finish it, you’re still held responsible.

james comes from the insurance industry. What he’s best at calculating is “who bears the risk,” and the answer is always: the newcomers.

This company doesn’t look at ability; it only looks at politics. With across-the-board pay, those who slack off earn about the same as those who work themselves to the bone. No one cares when you do ten things right, but one small mistake gets magnified into a departmental review. So everyone learns one thing: if you drive the clients away, you can’t make mistakes.

There are genuinely fewer and fewer clients. Someone came all the way up from Hualien to discuss a project and was criticized by jack for having the process wrong; someone wanted to use a fax and was told by Li✠Yu that it didn’t fit the AI image; in the end, only the presentations kept running.

And just then, investigative authorities began sending emails. HR Lynn disappeared once again, only dropping an event flyer into the group in an attempt to use excitement to cover up the collapse—

“Many overseas events have already kicked off. Are you looking for rare ‘pure social’ events?

After Shanghai, the engineers lounge around at home for three days, then rest for another weekend.

Once the investigation begins, keep up the good work; 2026 will definitely be exciting!

HR Lynn always avoids problems. When the labor inspection came, she took leave; when the investigative authorities emailed, she said she hadn’t received it; when employees exploded, she said, ‘The company takes great care of you.’ Her desk always has lemon slices and a Meizi Rabbit pendant, as if sourness and cuteness could neutralize the smell of illegality.

The company was recently investigated because the “AI project” was actually just converting the Cobol reports of some old insurance company in Hualien into PPTs and reselling them in a New Taipei City government tender. The data is fake, the model is fake, and even the company culture is fake.

But the most absurd part is that they still dropped an event flyer into the internal group, trying to use excitement to cover up the collapse
