The advantages are that you need to proactively develop new business. It is a highly challenging job that pushes you to discover how far you can go. In addition, sales is essentially the role closest to being the boss, so you need to handle many things yourself. This includes understanding the company’s products in order to promote them to customers, learning cold outreach, and participating in various trade shows, planning projects, and activities. Throughout the process, you challenge yourself to see what level you can reach and strengthen your negotiation skills. Since you interact with overseas customers, your foreign-language abilities naturally improve as well. To become an independent salesperson, you naturally need to understand many details about the company, including product development status, shipping status, and quality details, while also learning marketing. In other words, you learn across various fields at the same time. If you want to pursue a high salary in the future or become a business owner, you can start in sales.
The reality is that it is a highly multitasking role, and you cannot approach it like an ordinary staff position. When a customer calls, you have to respond; you cannot simply leave work and truly be off duty. Many things require time and effort to understand and maintain, including keeping track of progress, since you are the point of contact for customers. However, if you work in sales, you should be mentally prepared for this. After all, this is true of sales in any industry; you simply choose which direction you want to pursue and which industry’s sales role you want to commit to.
