Pros

1. Free meals

2. Relatively lenient leave policy

3. People interested in the techniques of making architectural models can give it a try

Cons

1. Although meals are provided, the chef’s management of ingredients and seasoning can sometimes be astonishing

2. Although taking leave is relatively lenient, regardless of what type of leave you take, you have to publicly explain the reason (those with a good relationship with the boss can explain it privately)

3. When work is rushed, overtime is required from Monday to Saturday (except Wednesday); someone once had to work overtime until midnight to meet a delivery deadline

4. During the interview, they said that leave would basically be approved if the reason was explained in advance. However, someone once wanted to take Saturday off and was called in for a talk, and the boss has also publicly said that not working overtime would affect the year-end bonus

5. No annual leave

6. Salaries are not calculated according to the method stipulated by the Labor Standards Act. The monthly salary is calculated using an hourly rate obtained by dividing the minimum wage by 22 (days) and then by 8 (hours). This is of course not a problem in months with 22 working days, but in months with national holidays or fewer working days, the salary will be lower than the minimum wage. It is an unlawful, neither-monthly-nor-hourly wage system with an irregular special calculation method

7. Overtime pay is also not calculated according to the statutory method. Regardless of whether it is a regular workday or a holiday, overtime pay is the hourly wage multiplied by 1.34 per hour

8. Pay raises are small and the criteria are unclear. Someone once worked hard for an entire year, learned everything they were supposed to learn, and did their best to cooperate, but received only a 1–2 dollar increase in their hourly wage

9. The year-end bonus is not much

10. You need to help clean up the trash, especially since their family produces an astonishing amount of waste, and they do not like sorting recyclables

11. The workshop is a metal-sheet building, so it is cold in winter and hot in summer

12. One employee is a member of the boss’s family, but no one knows his clearly defined role; he is a very mysterious presence

13. The boss has a loud voice and apparently a bad temper as well. I heard that he drove many people away by yelling at them in the past

Stepping into the company feels like entering a time tunnel and returning to the era of our parents’ generation, experiencing the traditional industry I had previously only heard about. Everyone is expected to put work first, and employees are treated like machines. They want you to work yourself to the bone while giving you only enough compensation to stay alive. Could it be that I have already prematurely turned into a robot that drinks oil and eats electricity?

Although there seem to be signs of change, I do not think it will happen that quickly. After all, it is a family business
