1. I worked for 12 days before resigning, and they still paid me for those days (although they should have, they were the ones who proactively offered to do so).
2. The employee turnover rate is very low, and vacancies are rarely posted. Most people have worked there for over 10 years. The people in the sales department tend to be older, while the accounting staff are closer to my age. Everyone is nice and friendly!
Except for a certain manager.
During my 12 days there, everyone was friendly except for a certain manager!
Therefore, I will only write about what the manager did and said to me.
Characteristics: Around 50 years old, gender-neutral in appearance and short and stocky; biologically female.
1. She had a lot to say about my car.
Because my car is an imported model, and she rode in it twice (she asked me to drive her to meet clients), she kept saying things like, “Why drive such a fancy car?” “Young people should save money to buy a house. Why buy such a nice car?” “Why don’t you take a look at what kind of car I drive? It’s the worst one in the whole company. I bought two houses.”
However, the car is not in my name, and I did not pay for it; it belongs to my husband. We can afford it, but she seemed unable to stand seeing someone else drive a better car than hers.
2. The first time I drove her, she said, “Why do young people buy a good car first instead of buying a house?” I answered, “I already have a house.” The second time she rode in my car, she said that I had been talking back to her that time.
3. She constantly sprayed saliva while talking, covering my hands and face. There seemed to be a hole somewhere in her mouth.
4. She posted on Facebook criticizing the new employee (me). I took screenshots as evidence. The gist was that I repeatedly asked her the same questions and did not take notes. But I did take notes, and I never asked her the same question a second time.
5. She has a confrontational personality. No matter what you say, ask, or answer, her first response is to argue: “That’s wrong,” “That’s not how it is,” or “You’re mistaken.” Over time, I became even more afraid to ask questions.
6. I was unfamiliar with the place and am a slow-to-warm-up person, but I had previously worked in sales for nearly five years. She kept questioning my sales ability simply because I was quiet. Part of the reason I was quiet was that she usually had a very bad attitude whenever I asked her questions.
7. Once she said, “You’re so introverted. You worked in sales for five years before?” I modestly said, “Not quite five years—four and a half.” She replied, “You’re very petty”???
8. She thought her sales skills were amazing, but shortly after I started, a customer messaged on LINE, “Can the hand towels arrive next Monday?” I asked her how to respond, and she said, “Reply, ‘We’ll do our best.’” I said, “? Just those two words?” She said, “What else?” Your sales ability is truly amazing! The customer later read the message without replying ^_^
9. She wanted us to push products on customers constantly, like in multi-level marketing. This time, the product was an electric aroma diffuser that could connect via Bluetooth, but the app was entirely in Simplified Chinese. Because it felt too much like direct selling, I couldn’t accept it.
10. She said she hated real estate agents and insurance salespeople the most because both professions were overly affected and pretentious. She said it was especially pretentious and annoying that they kept calling customers “older sister.”
11. I do not have a mother, only a stepmother, and my stepmother has not treated me well. She kept asking about my private life until she found this out, then said that her mother was also someone else’s stepmother—but her mother had treated her father’s eldest daughter well. She then told me to reflect on myself: “You say your stepmother treated you badly, but you need to reflect on how you treat others! Not every stepmother is bad. I hate it when people say that stepmothers are cruel, because my mother treated my half-sister well.” Okay, she was completely rubbing salt into someone else’s wound. Everyone’s family situation is different, and you have never experienced the hardships I went through growing up, so why do you expect me to examine myself? My stepmother married my father when I was only six. I was never treated with respect growing up; I was always looked at askance. You are not me, yet you still felt entitled to criticize me like that.
12. She arranged to meet the owner of a chain restaurant at the owner’s luxury mansion. Because it was raining heavily and I couldn’t find a parking space, I said that upscale communities usually have temporary parking areas. She called the owner to ask whether we could park in the basement. The owner said, “Yes, on B2. I’ll tell the management staff.” As soon as she hung up, she said, “Drive down.” I said, “But the management staff don’t know yet. We should wait for them to come out and notify us.” The manager said, “Didn’t you hear him just now? He told us to drive down.” So I drove to B1 and said, “We don’t know which space number we’re supposed to park in.” The manager said, “Drive down and we’ll figure it out.” I said, “There won’t be any phone signal downstairs. Also, if we rush straight down, some security staff might get angry.” Then the security guard really did come down and say, “Are you Mr. Zhang’s clients? Go to B2; he’s waiting for you there.” The manager then said, “See?! Is he angry?! The management staff are different now than they used to be!!” I was completely speechless! If you are entering someone else’s community, you should let the management staff know first. How can you just barge in and deal with it afterward? The fact that he wasn’t angry was because the management office was showing Mr. Zhang some respect, not because of you!
Conclusion: Overall, she has a confrontational personality and is self-righteous. She posted on Facebook criticizing me simply to gain sympathy, saying that training a new employee had made her lose her voice and that it was very hard.
If you can accept that, go ahead and give it a try.
The work itself and all the other coworkers were very good! Except for her!
