Pros

1. Flexible working hours: coordinate with the boss, work a full 8 hours, and you're good to go; no clocking in required.

2. Overtime is not very common.

3. Overtime pay is relatively generous, but holiday overtime is not calculated according to the Labor Standards Act; only overtime on regular workdays is calculated that way.

Cons

1. It is a family business, and the split between family members became very ugly. It shares its field-work crews with another company, so projects are often held up by that other company.

2. The boss's wife is a control freak. Even though there are surveillance cameras, going to the warehouse to prepare tools or organize samples is treated like you're being caught stealing, as if stepping out of the office means you're slacking off.

3. The boss's wife is extremely good at offending clients and vendors, so you can only keep helping her apologize. She complicates even simple matters. She is also emotional and lacks the composure of a senior manager, often acting as if, “I pay you to come to work, so just do whatever I say.”

4. She is stubborn and impervious to reason. Suggestions are never taken seriously, and you often end up with terrible projects that are incredibly troublesome.

5. She will alter your data and reports, send out the incorrect versions, and then come back to ask why there is a problem in that section.

6. The double standard is extreme: she can take other people's data, but you cannot ask her for data that you produced.

7. You have flexible working hours, and so does she, so she often assigns work by message after you have clocked out. When you have started work but she has not, anything requiring her decision can only be delayed.

8. There is not a single professional among the company's office staff; everyone only wants to work based on experience.

9. If you naturally have a stern-looking face, you may not be suited to this environment. Coworkers may assume you do not need help, leaving you to carry everything yourself.

10. Communication is impossible. After all, you are the outsider; even when there is a problem, it is considered your problem, while there are supposedly no problems within the company.

Based on the points above, if you are the kind of person who just wants the boss to tell you what to do, then keep doing it, making mistakes, and redoing it in an endless cycle, this place may suit you very well. But if you want to grow or use the job as a stepping stone, you will not learn anything here, because there are no professionals to guide you—and even if there were, the work would still be physical labor.
