This is a rotten company parasitizing the Veterans Affairs Council’s vocational training system. It is a Hsiao family business, with the boss, the boss’s younger brother, son, daughter, and relatives controlling personnel and finances, so don’t even think about any career development.

The boss of this company teaches at a Veterans Affairs Council vocational training center.

Basically, the owner of a company with nearly 20 employees and annual revenue exceeding ten million is not interested in the hourly teaching fee at a Veterans Affairs Council vocational training center.

What he wants is first-hand access to those simple-minded soldiers who have just retired from the military and do not yet understand the dark side of society.

That way, he can carry out his exploitation plan. Soldiers are easy to fool, after all—that’s exactly the kind of person scam gangs like.

As for why it’s rotten:

1. Working environment: There is a morning meeting at 8 a.m. where the boss gives instructions and assigns work; sometimes, if he is in a bad mood, he also curses at people. Attendance is recorded using a cloud-based system, which means that as soon as 5 p.m. arrives, you have to clock out at the worksite or while on your way back from the worksite. That way, they can avoid paying overtime.

2. Overtime pay: Basically, pretend this thing doesn’t exist. For newcomers, when you return from a worksite, the boss uses various forms of emotional blackmail, sarcastic remarks and stares from senior employees, and peer pressure to force you to stay at the company and do odd jobs in the name of “practice.” For senior employees, it’s actually even worse, because after returning to the company, you have to fill out all kinds of forms, submit official documents, and get berated by the boss. None of this is counted as overtime.

3. No meals provided: Normally, when a legitimate company sends a work crew out, the foreman covers meals and water. This company provides absolutely nothing. They even charge you for the boxed meals sold at the construction-site commissary. As for water, don’t even get me started—if you fill up too much water from the office, the boss will lecture you.

4. Workplace atmosphere: Things are much more pleasant at the worksite than at the company, because returning to the company means entering a pressure cooker. This is also why the senior employees here all have such terrible attitudes. The pressure imposed by the boss can, of course, only be vented on newcomers.

5. Most importantly, the salary: New employees earn less than 30,000, with a three-month probationary period. Raises depend on the boss’s mood and are 500 each time. Even taking a leadership position is laughable—it only adds 500. There are technicians who have been with the company for three or four years and earn less than 40,000 a month; they have to work overtime on holidays just to exceed 40,000. The holiday overtime pay is particularly ridiculous: calculated out, it is less than what you would earn doing day labor—at most just over 1,000.

6. Tools: The company does not provide basic tools and expects you to buy your own. Although there are shared power tools, the boss keeps a close eye on how you use them, and you have to pay for any damage. So, basically, everyone there prepares their own tools. There is one advantage: when you resign, you can simply take them all with you.

7. Why hasn’t it been sued? This goes back to what was mentioned earlier: soldiers are easy to fool and naïve. As a result, no labor disputes have broken out so far. After brainwashing people through his classes, he manages to trick a sucker into joining his company every few months. I’m writing this long post just hoping to save one person at a time. Low-voltage technicians are in very short supply in the market, so don’t let this company deceive you.
