This is a predatory company that parasitically operates within the Veterans Affairs Council vocational training system. It is a Hsiao family business, with the owner, the owner’s younger brother, son, daughter, and relatives controlling personnel and finances, so don’t expect any opportunities for development.

The owner of this company teaches at a Veterans Affairs Council vocational training center.

Basically, the owner of a company with nearly 20 employees and annual revenue of over ten million would not care about the hourly pay at a Veterans Affairs Council vocational training center.

What he wants is first-hand access to those who have just retired from military service and are still innocent and unaware of the darker side of society.

That way, he can carry out his exploitation plan. After all, soldiers are easy to deceive, and this is exactly the kind of person scam syndicates like.

As for why the company is unethical:

1. Work environment: There is a morning meeting at 8:00 a.m. where the owner assigns tasks and work. Sometimes, if he is in a bad mood, he also berates people. Attendance is recorded through a cloud-based system, which means that as soon as 5:00 p.m. arrives, you have to clock out at the work site or while on your way back from the site. This allows the company to avoid paying overtime.

2. Overtime pay: Basically, pretend this does not exist. For newcomers, when you return from a work site, the owner uses various forms of emotional blackmail, sarcastic remarks and stares from veteran employees, and peer pressure to force you to stay at the company and do miscellaneous tasks under the pretext of practice. For veteran employees, it is actually even worse, because after returning to the company they have to fill out all kinds of forms, submit official documents, and get scolded by the owner—all of this is completely excluded from overtime calculations.

3. No meals provided: Normally, when a legitimate company sends a work crew out, the foreman provides meals and water. This company provides absolutely nothing. You even have to pay for the boxed lunches sold at the construction-site convenience store, and there is no need to mention water—if you fill up too much water from the office, the owner will even complain about it.

4. Workplace atmosphere: It is much more pleasant at the work sites than at the company, because returning to the company means entering a tense, oppressive atmosphere. This is also why the veteran employees here have such poor attitudes: the pressure imposed by the owner can only be vented on newcomers.

5. Most importantly, the salary: Newcomers earn less than NT$30,000, with a three-month probation period. Raises depend on the owner’s mood and are NT$500 each time. Leadership positions are equally ridiculous, with only an additional NT$500. There are technicians who have been with the company for three or four years and still earn less than NT$40,000 a month; they have to work overtime on holidays to exceed NT$40,000. The holiday overtime pay is laughable—after calculation, it is even less than what you would make doing day labor, at most just over NT$1,000.

6. Tools: The company does not provide basic tools and expects you to buy your own. Although there are shared power tools, the owner closely monitors how you use them, and you have to pay for any damage. As a result, people there basically prepare their own tools. There is one advantage, though: when you resign, you can simply take all of them with you.

7. Why hasn’t the company been sued? This goes back to what was mentioned earlier: soldiers are easy to deceive and innocent, so there have not yet been any major labor disputes. After the owner brainwashes people through his classes, every few months another fool is tricked into joining his company. I am writing this long post simply hoping to save people one at a time. Low-voltage technicians are in very short supply in the market, so do not let this company deceive you.
