1. The salary is not as good as rumored. Taking my experience in the design department as an example: a guaranteed 13 months of pay + 0.5 month each for the Dragon Boat Festival and Mid-Autumn Festival + an annual variable bonus. You should be overjoyed if the total package reaches 15 months of pay in a year. If you hear the other party casually throwing around an extravagant annual salary figure during the interview, remember to stay calm and do the math. For example, if you join in the fourth quarter and they say the total package, including bonuses, can reach 18, 19, or 20 months of pay, you ultimately will not actually receive that amount because of the prorated calculation based on your start date; it will only be nominally impressive but empty in reality. Then, in the second year, it will be adjusted back down to around 14–15 months of pay in total.
2. Micromanagement and siloing. I won’t say more—observe for yourself which departments and positions are constantly hiring.
