The HR interviewer was quite good—very personable, direct, and practical.
The interview had already been scheduled, and I had rearranged all my other commitments. On the day of the interview, just as I was preparing to leave, at around 11:30—almost noon—I was suddenly informed that the interview was being canceled because the manager had something to attend to. I was also told that they needed to prepare a go-to-market plan (how to sell it, to whom, and what to sell). In fact, I had previously presented this information in an Excel file, including customer names, product categories, quantities, and countries. Since the manager felt the data was not sufficiently up to date and insisted that I prepare it again, I found this unreasonable. I have the information on new customers primarily in my possession and in my messaging apps. Without receiving an offer, how could I possibly hand over the entire customer list? I also felt that the manager was extremely disrespectful toward job candidates. After all, I am an experienced professional. If they behave this way before I even join, wouldn’t things be even worse after joining? I believe they could recruit salespeople from companies such as Wei X, Guang X, CMC, or other major firms, but there is no need to be so disrespectful to interviewees. It was a very unpleasant experience. Below is the response I sent to the manager:
Dear xxx,
First, thank you for giving me the opportunity to interview with your company. Regarding the go-to-market materials requested by the department manager, I fully agree that preparing a PowerPoint presentation would allow the company to understand me and my ideas and plans for market development more quickly!
I take the interview opportunity offered by your company very seriously. Therefore, after confirming the interview time with you a week ago, I canceled or rescheduled all my other commitments to ensure that no "last-minute" situations would occur and interfere with important matters~
However, when I received your notification at 11:30 just now that today's 2:00 p.m. interview needed to be rescheduled because the manager had a "last-minute" engagement, I was extremely taken aback!
I believe that the department manager at your company must have a well-planned approach to hiring talent rather than acting on a whim. The required qualifications, personnel documents and certificates to be provided before the interview, and even any reports that need to be prepared should all be determined in advance, rather than being used as an excuse to postpone an interview at the last minute~
Thank you again for staying in contact with me during this period. From x/xx to x/xx, the times when the manager is available happen to conflict with other commitments I have, so I will be unable to attend~
I wish your department manager success in finding talent who are well suited to their positions and able to fulfill their ambitions!!!!
