Yongyeh makes piezoelectric ceramics.
Basically, there are no competitors in Taiwan.
Although piezoelectric ceramics are niche, the barriers to entry are relatively high.
They are quite different from other passive components. The gross margin is considered fairly good.
In the upstream process, there is exposure to lead-containing ceramic dust. High temperatures must also be tolerated.
The downstream process is ordinary electronics-industry assembly. However, ceramics are difficult to fully automate.
This is both an advantage and a disadvantage.
The disadvantage is that it relies heavily on skilled workers. Volumes are usually not large.
But if it is managed well and the manual skills are retained, the yield will be high, profits will be high, and bonuses will naturally be generous.
For this reason, trying to spend heavily on automation is basically impractical: there is not enough volume, and the investment cost is too high.
It is better to train skilled workers. But because of this, large manufacturers are not interested, and there are few competitors.
