A foreign-invested company that was criticized by well-known host Yu Meiren for coercive sales has run into trouble again. Over the past four years, its foreign employees have frequently held all-night parties and set off firecrackers at a dormitory in Taipei's Wenshan District. Recently, a Bulgarian national named Chris set off aerial fireworks in the middle of the night and shouted at residents, “I know where you live” and “Want they fuck your face.” On the 26th, the Taipei District Prosecutors Office indicted Chris on charges including intimidation and is investigating separately whether the company illegally sheltered foreign nationals to work in Taiwan.

A man surnamed Qiu in New Taipei and a woman surnamed Lan became enemies after a traffic accident. For nearly two years, he repeatedly set off firecrackers late at night near Lan's residence, disturbing the neighbors and earning the nickname “Fireworks Brother.” In fact, a community in Wenshan District had already been kept awake by a group of foreigners since 2018. It turned out that these foreigners were employed by a foreign-invested company headed by a French national, Wu Bin'er Limi (Roben Jeremy Joseph).

In March 2021, Yu Meiren posted on Facebook that a friend's daughter had gone shopping in Taipei's East District when she was suddenly approached by a foreign man. The friend's daughter said, “Another girl rubbed something on my hand and then asked me to go into the store to try it. I didn't know how to refuse.” She was then pulled into the store and forced to spend NT$1,700 before she could leave. Yu Meiren sharply criticized the practice at the time: “Wouldn't this kind of disgusting store affect the entire shopping district? This kind of sales isn't customer-attraction marketing but harassment marketing! Enough is enough!”

In fact, the foreign-invested company to which this foreign sales team belonged had long been under scrutiny by the Taipei City Specialized Operations Brigade of the National Immigration Agency. The authorities suspected that the company had helped its Israeli employee Cohen Dorel's Thai girlfriend, Siriwan, apply to the Ministry of Labor for a permit for specialized or technical work under the title of beauty consultant, allowing Siriwan to come to Taiwan to meet her boyfriend even though she had never worked for the company. Taipei prosecutors recently indicted Cohen Dorel and Siriwan on charges including violations of the Immigration Act. Wu Bin'er Limi, having already left Taiwan, was placed on a wanted list.

However, the company continued to employ large numbers of foreign salespeople and operate in Taiwan. Among them, three or four people including Chris, a Bulgarian national, lived in a dormitory rented by the company in a community on Xinhai Road in Wenshan District. According to complaint letters written by the community chairperson and residents to the relevant authorities, Chris and the others often shouted at the rental residence or at the entrance to the community sports court, threw liquor bottles, and set off firecrackers; there had even been fights.

At approximately 1:50 a.m. on March 16, 2022, Chris again set off aerial fireworks in the community. When a resident went to stop him, Chris taunted the resident: “Don't worry I know you,” “I know where you live,” and “want they fuck your face.” Unable to tolerate it any longer, the resident filed a complaint. After investigating, the prosecutor indicted Chris on charges including intimidation and interference with freedom.

In addition, Prosecutor Xu Mingju is directing the Taipei Specialized Operations Brigade to continue expanding its investigation into the alleged misconduct of this foreign-invested company. While members of the public have repeatedly been frustrated in applying to bring foreign caregivers and other blue-collar workers to Taiwan, the company allegedly obtained Ministry of Labor permits multiple times using false documents and brought foreign white-collar workers into Taiwan under the guise of specialized or technical work. More than 20 individuals have currently been identified for investigation.
