Birthday meals for employees; everything ordered by HR is delicious.
The boss is emotionally unstable, says one thing and does another, and has no SOPs for getting things done. This time, I followed what the boss had said last time, but the boss immediately forgot everything and blamed me for doing it that way.
The company has kept a pile of paper records, but since every case is fully customized, they are completely useless as references. The old records are also full of problems. When new employees join, everyone is too busy to provide proper training. Even if you do things according to a colleague’s method, the boss will say that’s not how it should be done, even though that colleague learned the method from the boss.
Whenever there is a problem with a project, you have to prepare a pile of materials for the boss to review. If the boss does not understand them, explaining them will still get you shot down with, “What is this stuff you prepared?” even though you prepared everything exactly as the boss instructed and had other colleagues review it before submitting it.
Overtime is treated as part of the job. It is very common for the boss to call a meeting or ask to talk to you right before the end of the workday. Even during lunch, the boss does not care whether you are eating and will rattle off a pile of things to hand over to you.
There is an endless pile of unfinished work every day. Every project is treated as urgent, with new tasks constantly inserted. The company takes on business without considering the contract manufacturers’ schedules, and everything has to be rushed, rushed, rushed. When things finally reach a stopping point and you are about to leave, you still get lectured that “you can’t just leave because it’s time to go” and that “not finishing your work is a problem with your efficiency.” Projects are chaotic and require confirmation, and it is one thing when they get held up by sales every time; after they are finally resolved following a long delay, the employee is then blamed for processing them too slowly.
The boss thinks everyone is just sitting around doing nothing and berates people for completely unreasonable reasons. If you explain that you are working on other higher-priority tasks (which the boss had assigned), you are immediately accused of making excuses and told not to bother explaining. Everything the boss assigns must be completed at all costs.
The promised allowance for cross-department support was never paid, with the excuse that “performance did not meet expectations.” If I did the work I was supposed to do, why shouldn’t I receive it?
The boss insults people and then says it wasn’t an insult, claiming it was just an act and that they were insulting you for others to see. I just want to ask: if you said it wasn’t an insult, and then said in the very next sentence that it was an insult for others to see, what is this ridiculous self-contradictory performance supposed to be?
Nine employees have left in just a few months. Great job.
