The supervisor kept saying: “Could you stop being so listless?”
Me: “Could you give me an example?”
Supervisor: “I think you’re very listless. In life, don’t look back at the past; just don’t be listless in the future.”
Me: “But without an actual example, it’s hard to know what I need to improve.”
Supervisor: “Like I said, you should look forward in life, not at the past. Besides, there are so many things—how could I remember them all?”
Me: “But you’ve kept saying this for the past few months. I want to know what I did that made people feel I was listless, so I can change it in the future.”
Supervisor: “I feel like we’re stuck in an endless loop. I’ll have someone higher up talk to you instead.”
Then I was laid off the following week.
