A very severe overtime culture at the company. I don't know whether “severe” is an appropriate word to describe it.

In order to put on a show for upper management, supervisors resort to every possible means and find all kinds of reasons to make their subordinates work overtime. To glamorize overtime, they often say things that defy logic. They claim they will not force people to work overtime, but when your overtime hours are insufficient, you will be called in for a talk and told to find something to do yourself. In reality, they think you have not put in enough effort. Do they really think the people below them cannot see through this? There are truly quite a few people who are one thing on the outside and another on the inside.

The supervisors also have serious problems with how they use people. Everyone who stays there has already come to regard overtime as a matter of course, so they waste other people's time after work and keep them there until overtime hours without feeling the slightest bit embarrassed. They even expect you to respond to phone calls and messages on national holidays. If you do not reply immediately, just wait for questioning on the next workday.
