Let me start with the conclusion: the interviewer at this company showed absolutely no respect for the applicant’s time or experience!

1. My résumé’s contact information clearly stated that I only accept notifications through the 104 system or by email, and specifically noted that I should not be contacted if the starting salary is below NT$40,000. Nevertheless, at 3:01 p.m. on August 1, 2023, they called my mobile phone to invite me to an interview.

2. Out of courtesy, I still answered the call. The person on the other end identified himself as an assistant manager. He said that he had seen my résumé on 104 and wanted to invite me to an interview. He then asked where I lived. I answered Banqiao. The assistant manager followed up by asking whether I would be okay with the commute since it was somewhat far from the workplace. I replied that it would of course be fine if the salary met my expectations (the expected salary stated on my résumé was NT$50,000). The assistant manager said that we could discuss salary, compensation, leave, benefits, and other matters during the interview, so we agreed to meet for an interview at 8:00 p.m. that same day at the Fuhua Yue Community in Guishan District.

3. During the interview, the assistant manager offered the following working conditions: a night shift from 7:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m., a total of 12 working hours, eight days off per month, and a monthly salary of NT$39,000. They did not mention at all whether overtime pay would be calculated. This was far below my expected salary, and the number of days off did not comply with the Labor Standards Act.

4. After hearing the working conditions offered by the assistant manager, I immediately expressed my anger and dissatisfaction with them. The assistant manager actually said, “Sorry, because I’ve never encountered this kind of situation before. Usually, applicants write a very high salary for their previous job, but after discussing it, they generally still choose to join the company.” After hearing that, I directly stated that I wanted to leave immediately. They had essentially assumed that the previous salary listed on the applicant’s résumé was fabricated.

Overall, the interview wasted a total of 80 minutes of travel time back and forth, as well as my good mood.
