東阪國際有限公司
Pros

1. Punctual working hours, with no culture of overtime

2. For people who like taking health supplements: employee purchases and near-expiry products are available

Cons

1. Family-owned business: There are many of the bosses’ relatives within the company. Even when they do not have the authority, they often interfere simply because they are relatives. For example, product development is handled by the boss’s younger brother, who likes to interfere with product advertising materials, promotional copy, and so on. Even when the requesting departments have already confirmed that everything is correct, he wants to change things whenever he sees them. In this company, blood relationships are more important than job rank.

2. No salary adjustment or promotion system: If you unfortunately interview at this company, do not take what the HR interviewer says at face value. HR is the boss’s younger sister-in-law. She said that salaries would be adjusted after one year with the company, but when I reached that point and asked her about it, she said that salary adjustments were only given to people who had made significant contributions to the company (possibly things like taking bullets for the boss) or who were promoted. After I pointed out that this contradicted what she had said during the interview, she changed her story and said that the company’s salary-adjustment list had already been submitted and it was too late to make the adjustment. She said she would first help me adjust the bonus portion, and then proceeded to ignore the matter and drag it out for a year and a half. The bonus was either not paid or not adjusted, and my salary did not change. Later, I asked my colleagues and learned that the company had not adjusted their salaries when they were promoted either.

3. Stingy toward employees: After three year-ends, the company had not held a single year-end banquet or spring dinner. They said it was because of the pandemic. Even after the disease-control center announced that restrictions had been lifted, the company still used this as an excuse not to hold one. However, when overseas clients come to Taiwan, the company spends lavishly.

4. High turnover: The company likes internal power struggles. If you have a good relationship with the boss’s relatives and say something bad about someone, that person will quickly be dismissed. As a result, it is common for A to be dismissed today, B the day after tomorrow, and eventually the entire department to be dismissed.

5. Lack of professional knowledge: The company has no professional interviewers, so it often hires people with insufficient professional skills or work-related problems. It then keeps them on until it finds a replacement before dismissing them, leaving the people doing the actual work below to shoulder all the burden.

Summary: The pay is average, and the work is not difficult but tedious. However, there is no room for development or promotion. If you are simply looking for a place to get a paycheck and coast until retirement, can accept the culture here, and have no ambition to advance, this is not a bad choice.
