When a supervisor gets promoted, they often treat everyone to drinks
The project planning and overall supervisor only talks without taking action, and just dumps all the work on you. Salaries for overseas assignments do not increase much, and it is difficult to get a raise. You have a higher chance of promotion only after returning to headquarters. The quality of an overseas-assignment unit depends heavily on luck. In my personal case, there is intense workplace infighting in my unit, many people have resigned, and turnover is very high. Government agencies also have a top-down hierarchy, and they tend to make things difficult for the project planning and overall management team over policies instead of working together to figure out how to improve the project.
