During the interview process, it was clear that the interviewer appreciated me. The interviewer even mentioned at the time that they had really enjoyed talking with me. I wonder whether I felt the same way.
After the second interview, they called to say that they really appreciated me, then suddenly asked whether my expected salary could be lowered.
They mentioned that several of the people who interviewed alongside me were also very capable, but none were offered salaries of 38,000 or more.
They explicitly asked whether I might be willing to lower my salary to around that level.
After I clearly refused, they said they would try negotiating with the company.
After that, they never contacted me again.
The thing is,
104 clearly listed the salary as negotiable. In other words, only salaries of 40,000 or more should be listed as negotiable.
However, after being interested enough to invite job applicants to interview, they desperately called twice to try to haggle the salary down.
It felt awful. No wonder they are constantly recruiting on 104.
If you cannot offer a salary of 40,000, do not post the position on 104 and deceive applicants and waste their time.
