The Q&A was long and tedious. I had completed an assignment beforehand, and after submitting it, they questioned me about every single detail.
Even when explaining how the video should be filmed, a general outline was not enough; I had to mention the motivations behind it as well.
Then, when our ideas did not align, they kept aggressively rebutting me. If that was the case, why keep asking questions? Asking questions is supposed to indicate interest, isn't it?
Moreover, this was only an interview.
I found that it is not just this company—many companies are still stuck at the product level when it comes to marketing.
In fact, marketing is advertising, and advertising is about making consumers choose your product among the many options available.
They kept emphasizing the technical aspects while overlooking the need to resonate with people. That's what product management is about.
Making a good product is a given, but selling a product requires differentiation.
