Please compare the pros and cons side by side. First, let me add that everything described below is true:
1. The company’s exterior looks very beautiful and lush with greenery.
2. It has a great reputation and seems to have been a well-known company in its early days.
3. There is also a café on the first floor, with employee discounts. (I forgot how much the discount is; I’ve never had anything there.)
4. You can occasionally see celebrities at the company.
5. You are trained to be versatile and take on multiple roles, while also developing your patience, brain cells, and hearing.
6. You develop a sense of loyalty to the company and experience the loyalty of standing together through difficult times.
7. You are trained to be socially adept and to interact with department heads from all sides.
8. You get to challenge the requirements of the Labor Standards Act, as well as the health of your liver.
9. You develop the social skills to flatter and curry favor with the company’s royal relatives and state-owned-enterprise connections.
Please read carefully. Unless you are cheap and useful and don’t use your brain, you can skip the following:
1. A great deal of the company building’s interior is not maintained, because five people can leave the General Affairs position in six months alone. Management is helpless and simply leaves things unattended, waiting for the next scapegoat to come along and deal with them. There is no need to elaborate on the gaps in between.
2. In reality, not many people have even heard of Catwalk now. Partner organizations have even said directly in meetings that their target audience has never heard of Catwalk.
3. At the café on the first floor, the boss’s wife—who is treated like a royal relative of the state-owned enterprise—always has all kinds of requirements and rules for Catwalk employees. She treats Catwalk employees as her own personal servants. The entire café only needs to hire attractive servers; everything else can simply be dumped on the Catwalk employees upstairs. She constantly interferes, lectures, and makes demands as if she owns the place, even though she has not spent a single cent hiring you.
(Also, the company does not provide a snack cabinet. Employees have to put in NT$10 themselves to use the coffee machine, while the café’s coffee is both expensive and terrible.)
4. They are all celebrities whose names you cannot even recognize. Even celebrities with fewer followers than the influencer cats and dogs next door will act arrogantly and give you attitude.
5-1. The offer each person receives in their interview is different from the actual work they are expected to perform. After several rounds of downsizing, everyone’s workload increased, but salaries did not. When negotiating pay, the company will only tell you that it is not making money, or say that your work performance is inadequate, then skip the evaluation and automatically extend your probation.
5-2. The company’s senior employees have been sitting in their positions for a very long time—so long that their voices have gotten louder and their emotional management has deteriorated. From time to time, you can suddenly hear someone losing their temper and shouting at their desk, or a supervisor rushing out of an office and yelling. Over time, some non-managerial colleagues also become irritable and periodically shout at people they can order around. It is quite lively.
5-3. The boss’s interview schedule can only be confirmed early on the same day. In the afternoon, they may invite someone to come and wait for two and a half hours, only to stand them up, claiming that this is a test of the interviewee’s patience and how much they want to join Catwalk.
6. There are no bonuses for the three major holidays, no year-end bonus, no year-end banquet, and no spring banquet. The red envelope given at the start of the year is a voucher for the company’s own e-commerce site (an e-commerce site that cannot even be found by searching its keywords), and only one voucher can be used per order.
7. The management of each department keeps to itself. Their approaches to work are inconsistent, communication is lacking, and mutual resentment develops. Shouting and slamming tables in meetings are normal, and it is also common for people to dislike you indirectly because they dislike your department head.
8. You are not given overtime pay or compensatory time off for working overtime on weekdays. From time to time, you can see colleagues working until 11 p.m. or even into the next day.
9-1. As long as you are good enough with words and know how to act cute with the company’s royal relatives and state-owned-enterprise connections, you can earn a high salary. You can even claim that plans and projects you did not work on were completed by you—after all, the royal relatives and state-owned-enterprise connections will believe that you completed them alone.
9-2. As long as you pretend to be pitiful enough, when you cannot finish your work, your supervisor will automatically dump it on other colleagues, allowing you to go chase celebrities.
Summary:
The boss thinks that Catwalk is big and famous, and that if you do not stay, remain, or come here, it is your loss.
So, if you are cheap and useful, welcome to the Catwalk family.
