The job posting on the employment website was for an administrative assistant in the sales department, and the interview also focused on the responsibilities of that role. Later, it was mentioned that assistance with warehouse management would be needed, but the warehouse-related tasks were very simple, as another colleague was already responsible for them; the only tasks required were helping pick orders and manage incoming and outgoing shipment reports.
No experience was required, and I was told that a senior colleague would train me after I joined. The salary structure, company benefits, and other details were all explained.
However, on my first day, I was suddenly told that the main job would be warehouse management, while the sales administrative assistant duties would only be occasional supplementary work. The current warehouse staff member immediately showed me around and introduced me to the environment. When I asked whether the senior colleague had been informed that the handover would only involve assisting with incoming and outgoing shipments and inventory control, the senior colleague replied awkwardly that they had previously been told I was joining as a warehouse management staff member and an engineering department customer service assistant.
After I was given a detailed explanation of the warehouse product areas, the packing and shipping station, and the different models and brands, I was then taken directly to the engineering customer service department and introduced to everyone as the future customer service assistant. I was speechless and stunned.
After going upstairs, I raised the issue with the HR representative who had interviewed me. The vice president even arranged another meeting with me. The company insisted that “these are all administrative duties, so there is no discrepancy between the actual position and the job description provided during the interview. In addition, employees are rotated internally at designated times, and everyone must learn every position. Having new employees start with warehouse management and customer service is simply a way for them to become familiar with other positions in advance.”
Each position has its own distinct responsibilities and specialized nature, and it was never explained during the interview that the job duties would later rotate. Since I had no intention of working in warehouse management or customer service, I chose to leave after discussing the matter with the company.
I’m sharing this for other job seekers’ reference. Wishing everyone success in their job search~
