1. Convenient location and transportation (Section 3, Zhongshan North Road).
2. Nothing else.
1. Interview process: HR provided a personnel résumé form and an application questionnaire. After completing them, applicants were required to bring hard copies to the interview in person on the day of the interview.
*The personnel résumé form included the salary for every previous job, as well as the names, job titles, and phone numbers of direct supervisors and colleagues from the same unit;
*The application questionnaire included explanations of the aspects the applicant agreed/disagreed with in their most recent job, the aspects they prioritized in their next job, the role they hoped to take on over the next three years, the qualities that would make them suitable for the position, and the reasons the company attracted them, among other things. Even writing brief answers to the application questionnaire took more than an hour; however, these were all common interview questions, so it was difficult to understand why they could not simply be asked during the interview.
2. Interview format: I asked whether, during the pandemic, the company could be flexible and conduct the interview by video. HR said that only in-person, on-site interviews were accepted.
3. Interview environment: A roofless, lightly partitioned meeting room next to the guard room. The soundproofing was basically nonexistent, and conversations outside the meeting room directly affected the interview. Overall, it was a factory-style design (not industrial style—there is a big difference).
4. The limited job budget was not disclosed: Shortly after the interview began, the employer directly stated that the budget for the position was several tens of thousands of dollars lower than my expected compensation. I pointed out that my expected compensation was stated on the résumé I submitted through 104; it was not something I had only brought up on site. If the company was willing to invite me for an interview, it should have believed there was room for discussion. The employer merely said that HR must have overlooked it.
5. The worst interview experience, without a doubt: From sitting down to walking out the door, the interview lasted only about 15 minutes. However, taking half a day off and spending one or two hours beforehand filling out forms and taking aptitude tests were all time costs borne by the applicant. It is difficult to put the employer’s arrogance and lack of respect into words.
