It’s acceptable as a stepping stone and a place to gain experience. If you can tolerate the following shortcomings and are lucky enough to work under one of the few good managers, it can be a place to hone your skills.
This company is a family business, so you will encounter common family-business problems.
If the position is in Shanhua, you may encounter the following drawbacks:
1. Take the salary and benefits claims with a grain of salt. Promised raises, bonuses, allowances, and so on mentioned during the interview or at work are either not provided or repeatedly delayed.
2. Managers say one thing and do another. They usually say that employees are welcome to voice their opinions, but when you do, they complain that there are too many opinions. In reality, they prefer people who do not have much to say, while also claiming that they want employees to be assertive rather than blindly following instructions. In short, the standards are very inconsistent.
3. The company’s senior management consists of family members. Policies that provide no real help to the company but cause inconvenience for employees often emerge.
4. Even when you notify your manager in advance of planned leave (excluding personal or sick leave) and take it as scheduled, the manager may still complain, despite usually saying that employees should take their leave when needed.
5. When short-staffed, the company prefers to hire part-time student workers rather than recruit full-time employees. As a result, full-time employees often face heavier workloads and greater pressure to train and manage others, without necessarily receiving a management allowance.
