Pros

The interview process was very pleasant. Mr. Chiu clearly explained the company’s current clients and number of projects, what skills the position requires, and the clients’ environments. He said that, aside from a small number of databases being installed on Linux, most would primarily use Windows.

He also briefly asked me about the reason I left my previous job and what my responsibilities were there. Overall, the conversation lasted about half an hour and was fairly pleasant~

I live in Taipei, and the interview was conducted entirely by phone. He said I should receive the interview results within about a week.

Cons

During the phone interview, I heard that a system engineer who had worked there for three years had resigned, possibly because of career development or some other reason (I’m not sure).

Mr. Chiu was quite curious about how, given my educational background (not from one of Taiwan’s top four universities) and young age, I could ask for such a high salary. But seriously, isn’t compensation one of the main reasons people change jobs? XD (I only asked for a salary around the midpoint of the range he offered for the position.)

As for the other job-related skills, I don’t think there was much to criticize; I’ve handled all of them before. After that, I also wasn’t really sure what else to discuss. I asked him about the job responsibilities. Some projects might require going on-site to address some existing issues in the financial industry; he said this would be about once a week.

Another part of the work involves going on-site to install systems for projects that have already been agreed upon, followed by conducting a technical transfer with the clients.

I asked Mr. Chiu whether the existing issues were left behind by the previous engineer. He said they were not, and that most of the issues that could be handled had already been resolved. The remaining ones were relatively minor issues that could not be handled (the software occasionally crashing without warning; he said they had conducted a lot of research but still could not determine the cause). He was quite honest about it.

He mentioned about three times that he had interviewed another candidate who had already accepted the offer. He said he was considering whether to hire one or two people for this position.

Overall, the company is very small and urgently needs staff. He said that RD personnel are also difficult to find. I don’t know how much compensation they would offer (he made no guarantees). Regarding Taipei, he said they would later rent a temporary office, but I don’t know whether there would be laptops, desktop computers, or whether employees would need to use their own equipment.

I also didn’t ask about the year-end bonus, so I’m not sure. I may need to evaluate it after seeing the offer~
