Interviewing for an engineering position

The interview required completing and passing a pre-test before an interview could be scheduled.

There was no particular time limit, and the questions were quite simple. It took me about an hour to finish, which was fine.

After passing, an interview was scheduled.

The office was fairly clean, but for some reason the lights were not turned on that day, so it was rather dark. The seating also felt a bit cramped.

During the interview, a senior engineer first briefly asked what technologies I had used. He was quite silent, but overall it was okay.

Afterward, the boss seemed to come in and only then started looking at my résumé on his phone. This was actually acceptable since everyone is very busy.

After the engineer left, the boss and I were left alone. The boss mainly focused on questioning my personal experience, and then asked about my family background, such as my parents. (This was the first time I had been asked questions like that when interviewing for an engineering position.)

Overall, perhaps because I am a recent graduate, I felt that he displayed considerable disdain and made me feel disrespected. I will not elaborate further; in short, it left me feeling quite unhappy.

One of the few pure software companies in southern Taiwan with its own products, but the greater the expectations, the greater the disappointment.

Cons

The salary range was too broad: NT$30,000–60,000.

The listing on 104 stated that the company is friendly toward engineers; this should really be a basic consideration.

Junior and senior positions should be listed as separate job openings.

For interviewees who spend their own money on transportation and several hours of their time, even fresh graduates are people and should be treated with more respect. At least I have never encountered this kind of attitude when interviewing with other companies.
