雄獅鉛筆廠股份有限公司
Pros

You can get by just by relying on connections, but unless you can keep coasting all the way to retirement, you won’t learn anything at all—and you’ll end up being corrupted and becoming worse yourself.

Cons

Every day is just about getting through one day at a time. Every project is all thunder and little rain: the managers are like clowns, only wanting to amuse the old boss and placate him. They go along with one another to deceive the old boss. Your conscience can’t accept it, and you make no progress yourself; all you learn is how to deceive yourself and deceive an old man. Project after project, product after product, process improvement after process improvement—you’ll see them still treading water after several years. (Sometimes they even move backward.....

Moreover, the company also looks like it’s close to falling apart. The factory and quality control report to the same supervisor, so when quality problems arise at the factory, quality control doesn’t really investigate. There are only endless meetings, with everyone passing the problem around, then jointly soothing the old boss and putting on a show for him. When something goes wrong next time, it will still be the same problem.

Quality control lacks the ability to identify the root cause and has no authority to make the factory improve its methods. R&D, planning, and design are also completely lacking in originality, since they can only listen to the old-manager’s orders. They operate at the very tail end of trends set by others, and their methods are extremely conservative, so the market response is naturally not very good either.

The extent to which they are out of touch with consumers can be illustrated by the fact that one ticket to the tourist factory costs NT$500. It’s truly astonishing. Although I really want to say, “Go and see for yourselves,” I kindly advise you not to go. (After all, it’s also in a very remote location........

Not one of the 13 reviews is positive......... Think carefully before deciding....
