[Experience] Taiwan Certification Authority (TWCA) Interview Experience (Negative Review)

Time 2021/12/08 14:44:16

Interviewed company: Taiwan Certification Authority (TWCA)

Its major shareholders are the Taiwan Stock Exchange and Taiwan Depository & Clearing Corporation.

Interview dates: 11/10 (first interview), 11/15 (second interview)

Email hiring notification: 11/23 — electronic offer received

11/22: The department director specifically emailed me to tell me to prepare to report for work on 12/1. That evening, they planned to have a department dinner to welcome me.

11/23: After receiving the formal acceptance email from HR in the afternoon, I finished the documents they needed me to return within half a day.

11/24 (morning): First thing in the morning, I confirmed with HR where the paper offer should be mailed.

11/24 (noon): Since I had received the electronic offer and they had also said they would send the paper offer, I thought everything was secure.

So I promptly rejected an offer from another company.

11/24 (around 5:30 p.m.): HR said that the company had held a board meeting that afternoon and decided to freeze hiring for the department.

They would consider referring me to another department in the future. When I checked 104 that evening, the position had already been taken down.

11/29: Since they had not replied for nearly a week, I proactively emailed HR to ask about the status of referring me to another department.

11/30: HR and the department director called me to apologize and said that the other departments currently had no openings.

(I saw that other positions were still being updated on 104... lol.)

I originally thought that receiving an electronic OFFER, along with their saying that they would send the paper OFFER, meant everything was already secure,

so I rejected an OFFER from another company.

Who would have thought I would be screwed over by a company with no integrity?

Now I have to go through another round of interviews, while the HR departments at companies I had previously rejected do not return my calls or emails.

I have email correspondence and phone communication records to prove all of the above.

With the pandemic gradually easing, I really cannot understand the reason for the hiring freeze.

I’m just speculating, but it may be that they later found someone else to fill my position.

First interview process:

First, I took a personality assessment.

Then I interviewed with the department director and an assistant general manager.

Since the project development I had done previously was quite similar to this company's business,

most of the questions focused on what projects I had worked on, what products they involved, and which vendors I had dealt with.

Of course, they also asked why I had left the industry for more than six months and why I had left my previous, very stable company.

In the end, we had a very pleasant conversation and scheduled a second interview.

Second interview process:

Much the same questions, but this time I interviewed with the vice president.

After the questions were finished, we began discussing the offer. They proposed a salary

and explained that my previous work had been in R&D, that I had no experience with PM work, and that there might therefore be a discrepancy in the salary.

The average annual compensation was about 18 months’ worth of salary; if I was willing to work hard, I could return to the annual salary I had received at my previous company.

I felt that was acceptable, since I had never worked in project management before and had been out of the industry for six months.

Therefore, despite an annual salary reduction of approximately NT$100,000–150,000, I accepted the vice president’s verbal offer.
