Pros

1 Colleagues from other cities are provided with dormitory accommodation

2 Apart from the Associate Sales Manager, the other colleagues are easy to get along with

Cons

1 Family business (a complete disaster)

2 Every morning, employees have to clean for 12 minutes. After the company’s top boss returned, weeding was added to the areas that needed to be cleaned, and the assigned cleaning areas never change. The Associate Sales Manager also never stands up for or argues on behalf of subordinates

3 The atmosphere at work is terrible. The Associate Sales Manager has a bad temper and is very difficult to deal with, has poor emotional control, refuses to listen to others’ opinions, seems to have eaten dynamite every day, and speaks very harshly. They like to make subordinates play the bad cop while they play the good cop, are especially fond of flattering the bosses, make unreasonable demands, and insist that subordinates comply

4 I applied for a sales assistant position, but I often have to handle matters that are completely outside my responsibilities, as well as pointless tasks involving forms that can clearly be looked up in the system. Even factory and export issues have to be handled by sales staff in communication with customers. Raising these issues with the supervisor is useless; they will form a poor impression of you and may even drive you away

5 Overtime is a year-round occurrence. Originally, employees could only apply for compensatory leave, and even then, they were not necessarily allowed to apply whenever they wanted. There was no overtime pay. Although overtime pay was introduced later, there were many restrictions. The Associate Manager originally said that overtime could be reported every day, but the top boss may have realized that expenses were too high and prohibited employees from reporting overtime too often, limiting the number of overtime days. When reporting overtime, employees were also required to clock in within the specified time; if they failed to clock in, they were not allowed to submit a late application

6 A certain overseas factory is a complete disaster. Shipments often have problems and are frequently missing items. If something really cannot be produced, they may simply not ship it at all. We often have to organize forms for customers because of this, but the company has no interest in properly addressing the problem and only tells the sales staff below to clean up the mess

7 The promotion system is inadequate and works as though the company is looking for scapegoats. Turnover is too high, and people are promoted simply because the company does not want them to leave, not because of their work ability

8 The company often accommodates customers unconditionally

9 Because turnover is so high, supervisors arbitrarily assign you work that is supposedly within your responsibilities and completely disregard your opinions. They do whatever they want, and you can only comply unconditionally

10 The Associate Sales Manager comes up with inexplicable rules, such as prohibiting strongly flavored food, requiring breakfast to be finished within a specified time (a rule that does not exist in other departments), prohibiting drinks from being taken from the front when the bosses are holding a meeting there, and requiring everyone in the sales department to wear formal attire even though other departments all wear casual clothes. Most importantly, apart from supervisors, sales assistants generally have little contact with customers. If too many people request leave on the same day, they may restrict the number of people allowed to take leave, even when they are not responsible for the same brand and there is clearly enough staff

11 The benefits listed on employment websites should be taken with a grain of salt. For example, although three holiday bonuses are listed, the company may not necessarily provide them. This year, the Mid-Autumn Festival bonus was only issued after colleagues discussed it privately; the company clearly had no intention of giving it. (All three holiday bonuses are gift vouchers.) The company could not even afford mooncakes for the Mid-Autumn Festival—instead, this year each employee received four pomelos

12 The year-end bonus is fixed. Even with sufficient seniority, after working for 10 years, the salary is not paid proportionally. The company even stipulates that employees must reach a certain length of service before they can receive the three holiday bonuses (What do they think this is, a year-end bonus?)

13 There is no perfect-attendance bonus

14 Taking vaccination leave still results in a deduction from pay, calculated at the rate for personal leave

15 There is no employee trip, and to make matters worse, the allowance requires at least three years of service before it can be claimed
