If you want to do graphic design and shipping, avoid this company.
Oh right, Shopee customer service too.
The company is run by two brothers. I have to say that the younger brother’s management style is truly awful. He is constantly criticizing you and saying that your work is terrible, but 80–90% of the work has to be copied from others. If you are even slightly inexperienced, worry about copyright or minor details, or your speed is “just a little” slower, you will be criticized for being inefficient.
Then, after the three-month probation period, there was no salary increase. When I asked why, he only gave me a very fake, apologetic response: “Hmm, the review didn’t pass...” When I asked him why, he said, “The advertisements and designs you made didn’t bring in traffic.” Excuse me? Normally, don’t you just do whatever you are told to do? Aren’t you forbidden from going outside the box and creating in your own way? Or are graphic designers supposed to be responsible for traffic and costs? Yet when it came time to pay salaries, suddenly it had nothing to do with him? Basically, everyone in the company knows that he controls most of the company’s money and budget. No matter how the review is conducted, he is the one reviewing it himself, and the fact that he cannot even give a reasonable explanation is a huge question mark.
Incidentally, he also keeps all the data on the effectiveness of traffic, advertisements, and other things to himself instead of letting employees know. How is anyone supposed to know what kind of advertisements will be effective? Basically, all you can do is listen to whatever he says.
What is even more ridiculous is that he criticizes you while refusing to give you a raise, and at the same time says he wants you to become a supervisor and manage the other graphic designers. Then he tells you, “Sigh, I’m going to hire a lot of graphic designers in the future. When you’re able to maintain a good pace yourself, you’ll also need to manage your subordinates, okay? Basically, if they don’t do a good job, it will be your responsibility.” Mm-hmm, he really has a thick skin—offering barely the minimum wage under the Labor Standards Act while expecting you to take on supervisory and management responsibilities.
Except for customer service (the customer service work is relatively passive, and the workload and number of orders are also lower than in shipping), basically every department is chased and pressured every day. You are told how many packages to prepare in a day and that you have to make six or seven images in half a day, and then they always say, “Huh? Oh? This is easy.” They pick some of the simplest things to do and show them to you, thinking they can fool you. But anyone who has actually done the work knows very clearly that the difficulty is completely different. To put it plainly, you do not need to come up with any ideas there, because you have neither the time nor the opportunity. You can only use all your strength to “piece together” the images while being chased and pressured, then hurry to submit them and get it over with. If you want to hone your technical skills and test your mental endurance, it is actually fairly suitable. Oh right, you basically cannot learn much new there, unless you are both proactive and smart enough to deal with all their unreasonable demands, especially the HTML-related parts.
There is also a woman in the company who looks very fortunate and is in charge of shipping and the Shopee platform (which is why I said Shopee customer service applicants should think carefully). To put it bluntly, she is completely unreasonable. The severity of the situation is basically exactly the same as with the person I described above, so those considering working in shipping should also think carefully.
