During the first two weeks after joining, new employees are not required to work overtime.
After you gradually become familiar with the work, you are expected to handle tasks on your own. Sometimes there are machine problems that require the IT staff member to deal with, but their attitude is very poor. Since they are the only one, they have the most authority.
There are no extensions on the phones, so you often answer calls that are not for you. People also shout the administrative assistant’s name and say, “There’s a call.” Some people pretend not to hear the phone ringing and do not answer it.
You can never be without your phone, because drivers or vendors may call you. There are a bunch of group chats, and you have to pay attention to and respond to messages at all times. You even have to check and handle drivers’ matters after work and on your days off, so you basically have no time to rest.
You also have to do the monthly account closing yourself and send it to the vendor. Even though there is an accounting assistant, you still have to close the accounts and issue the invoices yourself. The account-closing form is still a traditional Excel spreadsheet.
Occasionally, you also have to help with other assistants’ work because the workload is heavy. You may have to work until 10 p.m., or possibly even later.
