Pros

The environment is beautiful and really feels like a design company. The salary and benefits are above the market level.

Cons

The main work involves real estate design.

1. You handle almost everything, but using AI to modify things like interior design drawings is very inefficient. Never mind when the software cannot run properly—when you already have a pile of work waiting for you, you can just wait to work overtime.

2. There are many senior designers. One particularly difficult veteran is especially demanding of you; if you have not done something well, they will not let you leave work. Seniority and hierarchy are taken very seriously here. Even when handing out desk calendars, people have to choose them according to seniority, which is pretty ridiculous.

3. There is no overtime pay, only a meal allowance, and it does not start being calculated until after 8:30 (the end of the workday is 6:30). You also have to work on holidays. The employees here have a strong servant mentality and think this is just part of the job. Heh.

4. As a design assistant, you are often disturbed by unrelated tasks. For example, when someone comes for a meeting, you have to serve tea, prepare the meeting room, and clean up afterward. Constantly having to stay alert is exhausting. You also have to take out the trash after work; if you leave before doing it, you will be summoned back. They put it very nicely: “Doing more of these things will help you fit into the company faster—we all help one another~” But in reality, only the rookies have to do them. Heh!

The administrative duties were never mentioned at all during the interview. The company also has administrative staff, but I later found out that the person who handled both administration and design was about to resign, so they kept quietly dumping administrative work on us rookies. Heh.

Some employees play petty mind games. For example, they moved a rookie’s desk, and when they moved the person who handled both administration and design, they did not tell the receptionist that the extension’s location had not changed. The next day, by sheer coincidence, the boss called an employee through the internal phone, but none of the rookies answered. One did not know how to answer it, and the other did not think they were supposed to. They were immediately questioned by three coworkers: “Didn’t you hear the phone ringing just now? Why didn’t you answer it?” Completely speechless. (Then why didn’t you answer it?)

Oh, and speaking of that, none of the coworkers like it when you go directly to someone with a question. You are expected to message them first and ask whether they are free before going to see them.

In summary, compared with the actual work, dealing with these people is the most exhausting part. If you have a strong servant mentality, you are welcome to join.

As for me, I have already left that terrifying hellhole.
