I can’t think of anything, and I don’t dare think about it—it gives me a headache.
HR emailed me to schedule an interview, but a few days later suddenly emailed again saying, “I think you’re more suitable for a position at the R&D Innovation Center. Anyway, the unit you applied to and Innovation have the same boss, so we might as well discuss both positions together. How does that sound?”
I said I would need to review the job description before deciding. A few days later, they said, “The original position has already been filled,” and told me to look up the Innovation Center’s job postings on 104 myself; if I was interested, they would help arrange an interview later.
I originally thought only computer purchases involved being pressured into something, but now even job hunting comes with being switched to a different position. Ugh, this is so frustrating. They didn’t even explain why I was supposedly more suitable, yet wanted to switch me to another position. Does this mean the R&D Innovation Center position is better for meeting performance targets or something??
They said, “Anyway, the unit you applied to and Innovation have the same boss.” I’m not sure whether “boss” means the hiring manager or the big boss, like the CEO. However, it’s usually unlikely that two departments have the same supervisor—that would work them to death—so I’ll assume they meant the big boss.
Please. The hiring managers are different, so the interview process absolutely won’t be the same, okay? By that logic, could I also apply for the CEO position and discuss that one at the same time?? After all, it’s the same boss.
It’s kind of like this: a supervisor needs someone who can do AI, but HR brings in a front-end engineer for an interview just because their résumé says they’ve worked on AI before, then tells the candidate that they have the same boss anyway, so they might as well interview for both positions. If I were the hiring manager, I’d be so angry I’d have a stroke on the spot...
They said the original position had already been filled, but the job posting was still active on 104 (at least it was when I posted this). I really don’t know whether what they said was serious or whether they were seriously trying to deceive me...
It feels like HR and the hiring managers at this company barely communicate with each other, while HR seems to have so much power that it can override the hiring manager and decide which position I’m suitable for based solely on my résumé (as if they’re even more capable than the hiring manager). I suspect the hiring manager might not even know that I submitted my résumé, because it seems pretty easy for HR to block it.
Even if I actually went to the interview, I feel like I’d mostly just be told to fill out a test and then sent away. After all, it doesn’t look like they’re genuinely hiring.
With this level of professionalism, I seriously wonder whether the HR exam only required threading a needle to get hired. I’m never going to waste my time on this company again. I don’t want to deal with people who only think about themselves and never consider the interviewee.
