You need to explore on your own and be proactive and self-disciplined. Don’t assume that slacking off, being careless, or trying to be clever will go unnoticed by management—they may simply not say anything, and one day you could suddenly be told goodbye without even knowing what went wrong. I’m not sure whether this counts as a disadvantage, but at least for those who constantly need reminders, it probably is.
