Is putting on airs considered a strength?
A standard old-school traditional-industry atmosphere
Three interview rounds
The first round tested a whole bunch of things that had absolutely nothing to do with the profession, and it took 2–3 hours. Completely idiotic questions unrelated to the job.
The second round was a video interview this year. Throughout the interview, one interviewer never looked at the camera and completely ignored the interviewee. For fuck’s sake, I came for an interview, not to visit a traditional market and stare at a black Berkshire pig’s double chin, okay?? Or do you have an eye problem and can’t find the camera?
And then, same as before, the questions had absolutely nothing to do with the profession. They clearly just wanted to find new lackeys who looked sufficiently submissive (or had already been selected?) and who they liked the look of.
Some questions even obliquely hinted that other shipping companies were better than Yang Ming, and asked whether, if I didn’t get in this year, I would apply to Yang Ming again next year… And it was that visually impaired interviewer who asked them.
If you think another company is better, why don’t you just quit and go there yourself?? Why do you care whether I apply somewhere next year? Am I supposed to apply differently next year just because of how I answer??
Is it really that hard to ask constructive, professional questions? Is it really so satisfying to keep asking questions that test people’s human nature (servility)?
If I’m invited to a third round, I won’t go either. For fuck’s sake, what a bunch of idiots. Do they think everyone is an unskilled idiot?
