Earlier, I saw a listing in an insert seeking part-time hourly workers.
I called the number provided in the insert to inquire, and specifically emphasized that I was asking about an “hourly position.”
When I went to the interview in the afternoon, I was first given some employee rules and precautions… among other materials. When I saw the salary and working hours, I was completely stunned.
The position was basically full-time.
Since the interviewer was the same person I had spoken with on the phone, I immediately made it clear that I was looking for hourly work. The other party was very forceful. To be honest, it was a very unpleasant experience. In order to trick people into coming to work, they did not even care about damaging the company’s reputation.
I said I would think it over and call back the next day with my answer.
When I called, another woman answered, so I directly expressed my dissatisfaction with the company:
“If your company is not looking for hourly workers, you should not have written that in the newspaper insert. When I first called to inquire, I also specifically asked about the hourly position. It is not exactly right to trick people into coming for an interview like this either… Aren’t you worried that word will get around?
Moreover, I was very clear about what I was looking for, yet when I came to the interview, you were actually asking for a full-time employee! I am unemployed, so I could let it go, but what about mothers who might have to ask someone else to look after their children in order to come to an interview, only to encounter a situation like this? How do you think they would feel?”
Afterward, the company corrected the listing in the newspaper insert.
But if this company is so short-staffed that it resorts to deceiving people into coming for interviews… one can probably imagine that it would not treat its employees very well.
