Only learned about the situation through a phone interview
Position applied for: Japanese-speaking administrative staff
After submitting my résumé, the other party asked to have a phone interview first to discuss the job details.
Once we were on the phone, they first asked about my TOEIC score, then only briefly introduced the company, saying that its headquarters are in Hong Kong, Taiwan is the main back-office operation, and there are fewer than 40 employees in Taiwan. They said they are a trust company and that the Taiwan office is responsible for back-office support.
I said I couldn’t find any information about the company online and wanted to know more about it.
They only said that they are a trust company and that the Taiwan office is responsible for back-office support (in simple terms, they couldn’t really explain anything clearly).
Maybe they were just too lazy to explain?
The position they posted was Japanese-speaking administrative staff, and I applied because I was looking for a job where I could use Japanese.
But then they said: “You might not actually use Japanese (?!!!!).” The main responsibility is back-office work, and English may be more important because they already have a professional JP Team handling Japanese business. (Then why did you post this position in the first place? What is going on?!)
Maybe because the position didn’t align with my career direction, they didn’t explain many details about the company.
By this point, I was already too tired to continue talking to them.
I simply said that it was okay then and thanked them.
The call ended.
I’ve always believed that job seekers and companies should have an equal relationship.
You’re evaluating me, and I’m evaluating you too.
During the call, I couldn’t feel that the other party had any respect for job seekers.
They weren’t even willing to clearly explain what the company does.
Honestly, who would want to work there under those circumstances?
Just sharing this little experience for everyone’s reference.
