Pros

The only time you feel happy is when you receive a year-end bonus equivalent to 10 months’ salary, but our base salary is very low. When you first join the company, it is only a little over 20,000, and the year-end bonus is calculated based on the base salary. Salary increases are also minimal. In recent years, the company has used various excuses to give employees poor performance ratings.

Cons

Neither the Japanese nor Taiwanese managers do any actual work. They only want authority and do not dare take responsibility. When problems arise, they only patch things up by taking from one side to cover another. The company often implements new policies directly without considering practical circumstances, saying that problems can be dealt with later. It completely ignores the problems employees below may encounter, and only asks employees to be understanding after problems occur, forcing the business unit to spend more time than originally required dealing with them.

The business unit has to deal with every mess. I advise anyone applying for a business position to think twice. Business staff here are expected to work like beasts of burden; they bear every responsibility, and in the end, everything gets blamed on them.

The factory has the most power here. Even when delivery is delayed until the following year, no manager steps forward to negotiate with the factory. Every time, the business unit has to face the customer’s complaints. The factory even complains that there are too many orders, but when sales performance is lacking, it expects the business unit to work hard to meet the targets. When managerial assistance is needed, management simply stands by and does nothing.

Performance evaluations are based entirely on the manager’s personal preferences. People who work hard do not necessarily receive good evaluations; it all depends on whether the manager likes you. If they do, everything you do becomes much easier.

The bonus is the same for every department, so the general affairs and human resources departments receive the same amount as the business unit. Yet they can assign miscellaneous tasks, such as purchasing stationery, to the business unit. This is extremely unfair.
