You can learn things because they are seriously understaffed and don’t have the capacity to train you gradually, so they are very willing to let you take ownership and do things on your own.
At some point, the company will present you with a choice between resigning and being stationed on the mainland.
It is not impossible to suddenly receive a request on a holiday to submit a new report that very evening. Needless to say, the same goes for after-hours on weekdays.
The annual salary you were promised may not necessarily be paid; if you want to negotiate, be sure to have it specified in the contract.
