The only advantage is when the supervisor isn't around.
During the interview, they emphasize that you won't need to worry about bringing in business, that they follow the Labor Standards Act, and that the work is simple and easy. The only issue is that there are just one man and one woman in Taichung, and whether you can accept that.
After joining, you really get exploited to the extreme. The supervisor makes more money from his side business, so he is looking for a full-time servant to help him manage the affairs of the entire company. In addition to your company duties, you also have to help him with his side business. The key point is that you won't get any share of the money his side business makes.
If you need to buy anything for the company, you can only use your one-hour lunch break to do so. In other words, the working hours will definitely exceed eight hours, without even including overtime pay.
The supervisor often lectures people based on his mood. If he is in a good mood, he may teach you along the way; if he is in a bad mood, he will scold you first. He especially likes to call you in for a lecture right before the end of the workday, so you will absolutely never leave work on time.
Because there are only two people in Taichung, the supervisor is constantly out handling external matters, but in fact he is usually dealing with his side business. You therefore also have to handle his business messages. It is completely a job where they are looking for an employee who is both an assistant and a salesperson.
He will absolutely never admit when he has said something wrong; he will shift the blame to the assistant. So the reason they insist on hiring an assistant is to have someone take the blame for him.
The owner is his uncle. The assistant who stayed the longest—five or six years—was his ex-wife, and the one who stayed for more than a year was his ex-girlfriend. So aside from people with these kinds of relationships, basically no one can stand his temper.
Whether the assistant does a good job or not depends entirely on his mood. His real purpose is to work on his side business, while hiring an assistant to fill the gaps in his main business.
Because there are so few employees, whether your leave request will be approved also depends on the supervisor's mood. Don't even dream of being able to take annual leave; whether you can actually take time off depends on his expression.
His most common catchphrase is, “Why should I care?” In other words, he can even refuse to approve an assistant's sick leave.
This job is suitable for someone with an iron liver, iron will, and iron body. It is best not to take leave; you should ideally be a workaholic and also be able to tolerate the supervisor making you take the blame.
The key point is that the salary is even worse than that of a student worker.
