Pros

1. The company does pay overtime, but not accurately. Only work from 19:30 to 22:00 can be counted as overtime (the end of the workday is 18:00), and you have to work past 20:00 for it to count. Any work after 22:00 is swallowed by the employee; the boss says that because the working hours have exceeded the statutory limit, it cannot be counted as overtime.

2. The boss tells us that she is a rare good boss and that we will have a hard time finding another boss as good as her in the future.

Cons

1. The company did not properly enroll employees in labor and health insurance. Later, because the company applied for government subsidies, the boss worried that employee reports might cause the company not to receive the subsidies, so the company made back payments, but required employees not to talk about it.

2. The company has not cultivated relationships with the media (ironically), is unfamiliar with media PR operations, and even outsources media work to another PR company.

3. The boss’s marketing concepts are very outdated, roughly at the level of the era of Taiwan’s “Three Television Stations and Three Major Newspapers.” She often brings out news articles or marketing cases from more than 10 years ago for colleagues to use as references.

4. There are fewer clients every year. The company does not really seem to build its reputation through a track record; it seems more like the boss brings in clients through her connections. It feels as though personal relationships and socializing are considered more important here than marketing expertise.

5. During work, you also have to handle the boss’s personal affairs. For example, when her daughter (a student) wins an award, you have to help issue a press release for her. The boss’s family members may even call to question why the media results are poor or similar things. The boss is the chair of the school’s parent association, so you have to help with school-related tasks, such as making PowerPoint presentations, designing certificates, and planning school events. These are all favors for the boss at the school. The company does not make money from them, and no matter how busy you are with your own projects, you will still be relentlessly pressured to finish these tasks.

6. Employee turnover is extremely high—roughly one complete staff turnover every six months.

7. The company has had a Mickey Mouse problem for many years, and there are a huge number of cockroaches. No one deals with them, and apparently the company has never hired cleaners to clean the office in all these years.

8. Gender discrimination. When selecting entertainers for an internal event, one male entertainer was suspected of being gay. The boss angrily shouted, “Why did you choose someone with such a negative image? And he’s a fucking GAY.” (Sorry, but this person actually has a positive image and has repeatedly received industry recognition, okay?)

9. The company computers are extremely slow, but the boss’s family says they are still usable (why is it the family who gets to decide? So strange). The company is not allowed to spend money on updating the equipment...
