The person conducting the interview was an engineer, not a manager. They were very polite and easy to talk to. There was no written test; the interview was mostly casual conversation, discussing my previous work as well as the content and considerations of this position.
There was no dedicated interview room, so they simply found a place where other interviews were taking place. Company colleagues sitting nearby could all hear the conversation. When discussing salary, I entered an amount within the range listed on the job site, but was still told that it was too high, which was very bewildering. They even said that HR must have entered the range incorrectly. My expected salary was also visible to other colleagues during the interview, while employees working on other tasks nearby listened while they worked. This was really inappropriate. After the entire interview ended, I never met with HR or the department manager, so I was unable to understand the company’s salary and benefits.
The company is a startup, but its systems and procedures are not very well established. Not having an interview with either the department manager or HR was very unsatisfactory, making it difficult to understand the company’s salary and benefits structure or ask more detailed questions about the job. Perhaps this position was viewed as disposable, so it was not taken seriously.
There are also too many companies in this type of automation industry, and what they do is largely similar. If you really want to learn, it would probably be better to gain experience and hone your skills at a large company. After all, this technology has existed for a long time; it is simply being combined with the topics of Industry 4.0, automation, cloud computing, and the Internet of Things. Companies across the strait have already taken it further than those in Taiwan. It may be suitable for newcomers looking to build up work experience, but if you want to work at a startup, you really have to take a gamble and see how it goes. Online testimonials from employees should only be taken with a grain of salt. Overall, the salary and benefits are not particularly attractive. Once the pandemic situation improves, employees may be assigned to mainland China; for now, the work mainly involves occasional business trips within Taiwan.
