Cons

The owner said that benefits would comply with the Labor Standards Act, but in July 2020 they were still paying an hourly wage of NT$109.

If they ask you to do an internship first or ask about salary, be sure to clarify the hourly and monthly wages in advance. The owner of the Fila franchise store in Shalu is very picky, and the store manager is unwilling to teach new employees. The owner only says that the job is very good and then complains to you that former employees always liked to complain about their coworkers (I thought, if you were generous enough, how could there be any grievances?). They ask you to work for one or two days first to see whether both sides are suitable. As a result, on the first day of the internship, I worked 12 hours. There was almost no opportunity to sit down except during mealtime—and I had to get back to work immediately after eating. By the end of the day, I had not even had one full hour of rest, yet I was paid only NT$1,200 for the entire day. They did not enroll me in labor or health insurance, and it was obviously not a matter of deducting the insurance premiums from my pay. So this is just deceiving people into coming to work!

During work, the owner's grandson would also run around the business premises carrying merchandise, and you had to help clean up afterward. The store manager had little patience for teaching people and still expected you to make more sales. How is a new employee supposed to know the features and every style of the products? Will they learn it all by themselves if nobody teaches them?

Anyone applying to the Fila franchise store in Shalu should think twice. When discussing salary, the owner evades the important points; even when you ask, she will not directly tell you how much you will be paid! If the schedule for 30 days consists of 10 days of 12-hour shifts, 10 days of 9-hour shifts, and 10 days off, you will often have to work overtime when there are not enough staff or when it is busy. However, the overtime is not paid as overtime pay; instead, it is converted into an end-of-year bonus for you (but if you are not meticulous about calculating things, you will have no idea how she settles your pay! Be sure to ask clearly).

In short, it is a stingy owner and a store manager who has no patience for teaching people. I heard that the previous employee who quit also stopped working after just one day! It was only after I finished my internship that I understood why she quit! If you are someone who does not mind having your pay cut from time to time, this place might suit you!
