Pros

1. Remote work

2. The projects are reasonably challenging

Cons

1. Lack of structure

2. The boss has no interest in management or in the existing projects. No matter what happens, they keep fobbing you off with plans for the future.

3. Chaotic operations lead to extremely low morale.

4. The boss has very poor interviewing skills (they excessively exaggerate candidates’ abilities and ignore the technical interviewers’ recommendations).

The boss will talk your ear off about how great and talented the people in the company are, and about the grand plans and projects they have where you can make use of your expertise.

There really was a great team here in the past, but whenever a project encountered difficulties, the boss—who had no understanding of how the project was being run—would suddenly intervene and start looking for people to berate. After the berating, the boss would disappear again, taking no interest in the project. After this happened repeatedly, everyone gradually started leaving.

The frontend manager once told me: “The smart people have all left first. I’m relatively foolish, so I still want to finish the project (Note 1), but given the situation, the next time the boss has an outburst (Note 2), I’ll be the target.” Some time later, I saw in the chat channel that the boss had started picking apart that manager’s work. Some people were hired at a high salary and then had their salary cut in half after a month. Others were assigned all kinds of managerial positions before they had even joined the company—“all kinds” of managerial positions. Since some work for the company is paid hourly, certain employees contribute nothing yet make a lot of money by attending meetings, while the people shouldering a pile of responsibilities are the ones who get berated by the boss.

Note 1: This was the project the boss claimed was the most important project in the entire company—Labelhub—but they were completely unfamiliar with how it operated.

Note 2: Every so often, the boss suddenly finds many reasons to attack team members. Many people have left this way; the methods are basically always the same: criticizing the architecture, excessive working hours, or poor cooperation. But the boss never actually manages the projects and has no real understanding of the situation. They also engage in all kinds of exhausting bombardment through posts. Extremely immature...
