Pros

Overtime pay. New Year raffle. Start-of-year red envelopes.

Cons

1- During the interview, they will tell you there is a probationary period, but the Labor Standards Act has long since had no such thing as an applicable probationary period. Please be careful not to be deceived.

2- If salary is discussed, it includes a full-attendance bonus of NT$2,000 (you may be late up to three times, by no more than five minutes each time). It will not be paid for an incomplete month (if you start on a day other than the 1st, NT$2,000 will be deducted from your salary immediately), which also affects how overtime pay is calculated (resulting in less overtime pay). (According to the Labor Standards Act’s definition of regular wages, fully deducting the attendance bonus for an incomplete month is somewhat on the edge of legality. Applicants should think carefully.)

3- The company requires overtime very frequently, and you may even have to work overtime on holidays. Please consider your career plans carefully.

4- Salary is paid on the 10th of the following month into an account at Land Bank of Taiwan or Yuanta Bank (there have been cases where employees could not receive their salary from Land Bank on the payment date).

5- Upon joining, you are required to submit a general physical examination report. The company “will not” give you money for the examination, although it seems not to matter if you temporarily do not submit it.

6- The boss can get into arguments with anyone (including non-employees—vendors and clients, as well as employees; most arguments are over money), and these can escalate into major disputes. Even during lunch breaks, the boss may argue in the office loudly enough for the entire company to hear. If you need a peaceful lunch break, please think carefully.

7- The company has no employees or expertise dedicated to handling electrical and plumbing, fire safety, or air-conditioning matters. If a project involves any of these areas, problems will arise (mostly involving money), which then leads to major arguments with the boss.

8- There is no training whatsoever when you join the company, including the company’s case-handling procedures and drafting methods. Department managers are extremely unwilling to take responsibility and usually shift all problems onto their subordinates; no matter how many things go wrong, it is always the subordinates’ fault.

9- There is a prescribed format for drafting. If you participate in drafting, be sure to ask for clear instructions before starting, to avoid producing a pile of incorrect drawings.

10- Employee turnover is extremely high. Of approximately 30 employees, around 6 have been there for six years or more (there may be only around 2 who have been there for more than 10 years).

The information above was recorded during a certain period, and it is uncertain whether things are still the same now.

Please refer to the information above when considering whether to apply for a job and attend an interview.
