When you leave, you’ll feel like you were Superman: one person doing the work of three. One of those three is a manager whose daily job is pushing their own work down to you; another is a coworker who loves making up random rules, leaving you to clean up the mess; and the third is a supervisor who loves standing by when something goes wrong and being sarcastic when you ask for help.
After working at Carrefour, you’ll have no problem working anywhere else!
I only worked at Carrefour’s convenience-shopping service. Basically, it’s a 24-hour convenience store plus PX Mart: you get only one salary but have to do twice the work. You’re expected to know about 80% of what convenience-store employees know (probably everything except shipping packages), and you’re expected to know even more of what PX Mart employees know—including operating the service desk, checking out customers, and dealing with the messes created by coworkers, all at the same time.
If something isn’t finished, it’s your problem. Coworkers slacking off is the norm. If a manager doesn’t like you, you’re responsible for everything within your duties. Other coworkers can take breaks, loaf around, or sleep, and it’s all fine—but you’re the one who suffers.
For the same number of hours, full-time employees earn NT$1,000–2,000 less than part-timers; including overtime, the difference is even greater. Full-time employees also have to deal with all the crap mentioned above, while part-timers only need to show up and leave on time, then pat themselves on the back and walk away. Any trouble they cause can just be left for full-time employees to handle. If you’re asked to work extra hours, put on a sour face and curse a bit, and you won’t have to. Remember: just apply for a part-time position—it’s comfortable and pleasant.
