Pros

Interviewed for the Account Manager position

- I interviewed with the AM, RD Director, and Sales teams, and all three were quite kind. The RD manager did not have the tech-first attitude—or the unpleasant technical vibe of looking down on people from other fields—that some technical staff or technically trained PM managers may have (I’m not sure how else to describe it). Overall, it was quite good.

- The actual job is purely AM and customer service. The project work also involves processes related to helping customers use the system when they first go live, including guiding them through the processes. It has nothing to do with project management and differs somewhat from the job description on 104. Therefore, you can learn about this point before the interview and then decide whether you want to go.

Cons

The direct supervisor is the BD manager.

There is no supervisor for AMs who provides work handover and guidance, so senior AM colleagues have a significant influence over how the work is handled.

An AM colleague included an English speaking question in the interview. She was quite amusingly unaware that she had overstepped and gotten involved in something she should not have. This is not to say that an English interview is unnecessary; rather, as a colleague conducting the interview, she took the initiative to create a question herself. It gives the impression that she may be likely to try to manage less experienced colleagues in the future. This seems to be something the manager is assessing.

However, opinions may vary. For less experienced, younger people with little experience, being managed by her may not necessarily be a bad thing.
