Colleagues who likewise want to change the situation understand your pain, and you can share it together at work.
First, if you are considering joining, please first understand what the “live-streaming industry” is. This industry is very special. If the product you work on is something you dislike, please run quickly. Even though 17 may currently offer slightly higher pay than the industry average (but the benefits have also been reduced recently), do not waste your youth on something you dislike. It will not build value for your future, nor will it give you anything worthwhile to take with you or talk about. Later, when you move to a company where you can genuinely develop your skills, you may actually be offered a lower salary.
The engineering department may be somewhat better, but after the layoffs, it is hard to say.
Second, some live-streaming apps could be made very well. Unfortunately, they simply keep copying the same monetization model and lack innovation.
Third, the management system is extremely chaotic. A large number of parachuted-in outsiders have become managers without even understanding the company’s systems, basic operations, or the product itself. A large group of people can be parachuted in like this, and the company does not even communicate normally with subordinates. It is incredibly ridiculous. Then, whenever problems arise, they make subordinates solve them or issue random instructions, while completely failing to take on the role of providing guidance, direction, or assistance in moving things forward.
Fourth, the company simply does not have enough resources. More importantly, its basic infrastructure is poor. (To be honest, even though all the young people have enthusiasm, they do not have deep insight into their respective fields, nor are their skills particularly strong.) Requests just get stuck in midair—stuck, stuck, stuck—so nothing can get done. Managers do not really care and will not proactively fight for anything; they just let it slip by with a blink.
Fifth, who among the people working here genuinely cares about the work in front of them or wants to make changes? If you still have some ideas about your life and are a smart person, sorry, but this place cannot accommodate you, because it is genuinely not strong. It also looks nothing like the kind of startup it claims to be—a flat organization. The systems are chaotic; even expense reimbursements require hand-writing 300 forms. Office politics are severe, and the company’s support departments—HR and Finance—will take you down first.
This place is more like a traditional industry company. For all you know, traditional industry companies may even be more creative................... There is no concrete strategy; they are very good at PR and issuing press releases.
If you have a lot of ideas, you really should not come here—you will suffer. The company does not value talent. Anyway, young people in Taiwan are all treated as disposable, which is very convenient. Communication between departments is a matter of intelligence and logic. Be extremely careful, and do not continue enabling this kind of company that underestimates the maturity and ideals of young people.
