This is food production for FamilyMart. I found the job online and applied, working in the food preparation area. The hourly wage was 180, with a schedule of 8:00–16:30; if there was no break during the shift, I finished at 16:00.

You have to wear a full-body cleanroom suit, rain boots, a plastic apron, three layers of gloves, and plastic sleeve covers. The area is filled with cooking fumes. Although masks are provided, they are ordinary masks, so you still inhale the fumes. The problem of inhaling cooking fumes is serious. At only 180 per hour, you might as well try it if you do not care about your health.

The floors are covered with standing water, and oil from the cooking fumes sticks to everything. Baskets and carts pass everywhere, so you constantly have to move out of the way. It is extremely hot! You basically cannot drink water or use the restroom because they are severely understaffed. The high-frequency work cannot be stopped midway. After work, your entire body is drenched as if it had rained. I experienced what seemed like heat exhaustion or heatstroke. I worked there for one week; many people came in and left halfway through their first day.

Also, even though it is a food company, they deduct $45 for meals? The important thing is that the food is difficult to eat and the portions are small. One time, the lunchtime dessert soup was mung bean soup, which was rare, but when I went to get some, they told me it was gone. It is because the heat and stuffiness are genuinely unbearable; you feel terrible at the time, and you have paid for the meal.

More than 70% of the workers, including full-time employees, are foreign workers. After chatting with them, I understood that they had no other choice.

I am someone who is not afraid of hard work. I previously worked as a truck driver, earning a total of 400 per day while delivering to 27 locations. The route covered all of New Taipei, from Linkou to Bali. I also had to deliver two pallets to a liquor warehouse, with each box weighing over 18 kg, stack them myself, and work under very tight time constraints. Then I had to deliver more than 30 kg of goods to the next location, climb stairs, and continue on to the shipping port, where I had to unload the entire truck myself. That kind of work made me dizzy from exhaustion.

(Occasionally, there was no cargo for a few days, so I went home at noon.)

In conclusion, based on my experience in society and speaking honestly, the hourly wage for the food preparation area should be at least 230. If you take into account the lung exposure to oil fumes, it should be 250. At this job, you are essentially losing money.

The hourly wage is only 180, and they do not even pay overtime! I heard that management is afraid of high personnel costs. You can already tell what kind of condition this company is in—it is awful.
