Export sales account for 70–80% of total sales. The export sales department has three divisions and currently has high revenue, so there is not much need to spend time on business development; simply handling orders every day is already more than enough to keep everyone busy. The current managers are generally former assistants under the founding veterans from the company’s early days—assistants who did not need to have any particular abilities. After the founding veterans retired, these assistants were promoted, yet still lacked much ability (being busy handling orders every day also leaves them unable to build expertise through business development). They cannot even write basic business correspondence properly; their English emails sound like they are picking a fight. They worry that their subordinates may be stronger than they are, so they will not give you anything too important to do. Every day, you simply paste delivery dates—taking the delivery-date spreadsheet provided by Procurement, finding the dates for the customer items you are responsible for, and pasting them into your department’s form—using very outdated methods to manage order delivery schedules. You apply for an overseas sales position and end up being used as an assistant. One export sales manager has extremely poor emotional management and, “reportedly,” became much more restrained only after being reported by a new employee. This manager took advantage of employees extensively in the early days and only learned to behave after being reported, but still takes advantage of employees in small ways. Those who are curious can go in and experience it for themselves. After reading this far, are you sure you want to go in and waste your life?
